What is the GLA:D® Program?

GLA:D® (Good Life with osteoArthritis: Denmark) is a ground-breaking education and exercise program originally developed by researchers in Denmark. It is designed to support people living with symptoms of hip and knee osteoarthritis (OA)  and now, persistent or recurrent back pain through guided education, supervised exercise, and lifestyle strategies backed by strong clinical research.

Now Introducing: GLA:D® Back

GLA:D® Back is specifically designed to help people experiencing chronic or recurring low back pain. Just like the hip and knee program, GLA:D® Back combines educational sessions with targeted, evidence-based exercise to help individuals:

GLA:D® Program Structure

All GLA:D® programs at TPM Townsville include:

  1. Initial Assessment

    Includes medical history, physical tests (30-second chair stand and 40m walk), and program planning.

  2. Two Education Sessions

    Learn about osteoarthritis and back pain, why movement matters, and how to manage symptoms for long-term success. (60–90 minutes)

  3. Twelve Supervised Exercise Sessions

    Group-based sessions run by certified GLA:D® professionals to improve strength, mobility, and confidence.

  4. Three-Month Follow-Up Assessment

    Reassess your outcomes and progress, and refine your plan for long-term success.
