Shoulder Conditions We Treat

The AC stands for the acromioclavicular (AC) joint. The joint joins your collarbone to your shoulder blade. The AC joint has 4 ligaments, which provide stability to the joint, when any of these ligaments tear an AC sprain is the resulting injury.

The shoulder can dislocate in many directions including backwards, downwards and in 95% of cases, forwards. When the ball comes out of the socket it is known as a dislocation.

A broken shoulder is the term usually given to a fractured humerus. Fracture is the medical term given to a broken bone and humerus refer to the upper arm bone. The fracture will usually occur at close proximity to the ball of the shoulder joint.

A frozen shoulder is a condition that causes shoulder pain and limits the shoulder’s range of motion. The limit to range of motion affects both active and passive range of motion, which means its movement is restricted when you or someone else tries to move it. It is also known as adhesive capsulitis.

Rotator cuff tears are usually caused by degenerative changes, an acute event or repetitive micro trauma. More traumatic injuries may occur following a fall onto an outstretched hand, following a dislocation or with excessive push/push mechanisms.

Subacromial impingement (SAI) is defined as the mechanical compression of subacromial structures between the coraco-acromial arch and the humerus during active arm elevation about shoulder height. The rotator cuff tendons and subacromial bursa are often impinged.
