Townsville Dry Needling

Dry Needling Townsville | TPM Physiotherapy

Townsville Dry needling has become more integrated into the Physiotherapy and Chiropractic up-skilling list and treatment approach.

However, there is still some confusion around what is Dry Needling and how can help in the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and chronic conditions when receiving Physiotherapy.

What Is Dry Needling?

Dry Needling is a gentle form of treatment which incorporates very fine needles. These are gently inserted into the tissue and as a result, your body’s reaction is to stimulate a healing effect. This can assist with pain relief, reduced inflammation, improving local healing responses and relaxing muscle spasm.

What To Expect When Receiving Dry Needling At The Physio Movement

Within your Dry Needling appointment, your therapist will ask you to lye comfortably. Your therapist will then inform you where they will be inserting the single use needles.  The sensation varies for different people, but typically may be a feeling of heaviness, warmth, fullness, aching, or numbness. Some gentle techniques could include manipulating the needling, in addition a jump or twitch will occur in the muscle. Needles will gently  be removed after a period of treatment.

Benefits Of Dry Needling:

  • Release “knots” within a muscle.
  • Improved blood flow, which helps remove unwanted toxins and deliver healing properties.
  • Create a relaxing effect on muscles to decrease myofascial tightness.
  • Helps stimulate the bodies release of positive chemicals e.g. endorphins to help with healing, pain responses and whole body relaxation.
  • Decreases pain.
  • Assisting with muscle stimulation and activation
  • Neuromuscular activation or desensitization depending on the treatment goals.

Conditions which Dry Needling can benefit

Dry needling is very effective in the treatment of tennis elbow, sciatic nerve pain, lower back pathologies, stress, headaches, muscular and nerve tightness, shoulder rotator cuff and impingement syndromes, muscle strains, shin splints, trigger points referred pain and many more conditions.

If your physiotherapist or Chiropractor at The Physio Movement thinks you will benefit from the dry needling treatment technique, they will explain the process carefully and the reasoning behind its use whilst in your session. They will answer any questions or concerns you may have regarding dry needling before choosing whether or not you would like to trial this method of treatment.
